In my year on the North Coast, I covered city council, cultural practices, news and community profiles all over Kaien Island for the Northern View. I also co-hosted our weekly video podcast.
In 2017, I was part of the award-winning team who introduced the world to Hammy the Deer (and earned a Ma Murray award in the process).

Arnie Nagy knows his way around a kitchen and his door is always open. Here, he teaches how to can sockeye salmon, step-by-step.
Smoking Cod
Another fish, another lesson. In “Where there’s smoke, there’s fish,” the Gitmaxmak’ay Nisga’a Society teaches youth in Prince Rupert how to smoke black cod.
Cedar weaving
Residential school survivor Fanny Nelson passes on traditional knowledge to children — and elders.
